Project start

Today I had my first little presentation at UnitingCare Wesley. It was an introduction presentation for UFile, the project I’m working on. I think it was really good. Now my project for my thesis is really starting. Within the next week I will do a business analysis and more presentations. Hopefully I will also have time to do some writing for the thesis then ….
Cheers

Our bikes

Hi guys,

It was a little bit windy today, but we had around 25 degrees (an exception). Today we left Uni at around 4 and cycled around at the north parks and the Torrens river. On the way we took a photo of our "new" bikes. So here they are:

Our bikes(it is an obligation to wear a helmet here)

Beside that we saw lots of baby ducks, a pelican and for sure lots of nice little colourful parrots.
Now we are just back from Japanese dinner at the central market food court!
We wish a good weekend to everybody

Royal Adelaide Show

Hey everyone,

yes, it's cold (the "hottest" was 14°C) and it's cloudy ... but we went out to the show 🙂

Royal Adelaide Show has originally been put up by some farmers and is dominated by them till today. You can see cows, horses, pig, sheep, chicken, ... of all sorts. And this you cannot only do like far off, but really close ... this can turn out to be a pretty touchy experience 😉

Anyway, there's not just animals standing around. No, it's also about "carnival", the Great Parade and a nice show with fireworks at the end!

For all the Germans amongst us: Carnival is no festival in terms of "Karneval". It's got nothing to do with parades and costumes. It's rather like "Kirmes" with lots of attractions such as roller coasters,  carousels and dodgems.

The Great Parade is, well, a funny kind of parade as the participants are not only horses, but also cows and coaches. Looked pretty funny and was not like a strict formation, but very nice.

At the end, though, we had the chance to watch the big evening show. There were crazy bikers doing somersaults high up in the air, funny cowboys and much more. At the very end we could see these wonderful fireworks that were accompaying the music. And guess what; the music and the fireworks really seemed to be synchronized 🙂

P.S.: I guess we are actually dating things back with this one, but this way it'll be right when we look at the post in a couple of months 🙂 JHG

It's an opossum. On a tree right in the middle of Rose Park (the suburb we live in). Cool, isn't it?

New hoodie and other news

Hey everyone,

there's not been a whole lot in the last couple of days that we could tell you ...

I've bought myself a new hoodie and both of us got our transportation straight, finally ... we'll report back to you on that in another post though 😉

Johannes at Victoria Square

Johannes at Victoria Square

Anyway, work is still under way and even though it seems like a long time lying ahead it's sometimes not enough. I want to do one or two surveys, but the time to get them approved might be so long (6+ weeks) that I can only do one. I'll probably do the second one in a diefferent environment if it really takes that long ...

Other than that we did a little shopping on Adelaide Central Market. Did you know that it's really hard to get some meat for Schnitzel? At least if you don't want to have chicken or beef steaks? We ended up buying chicken at the end 🙁

Cheers,
Johannes

Bachelor theses start

Hi everyone,

We both have started reading heaps of articles, reports, journals,… concerning our topics for our Bachelor theses last week.
I didn’t know that I am able to read that much stuff in such a short time J. We also had our first meeting about how to structure and start our work. This was really too much information at once!
I will start my work within the organisation probably next week, or the week after that. First I have to come up with kind of a training plan…
Anyway, we will see how it will go on.

Found a place to stay!

Hey everyone,

At the weekend we found a place to stay. It is a room within a 6 floor high student’s accommodation. We have two beds (which we put together) a nice desk, a small basin and lots of space in the cupboard to put in our few things we have here.
We are sharing the kitchen and the bathroom with the other students (all Asian), but we think it is ok.
It is located only 2km east of the CBD and about 4 km away from Uni. The suburb is called Rose Park and is pretty nice!
Here are two small pictures of room.

Adelaide weather

Hi guys,
Everyone says that South Australia (the state in which Adelaide is located) is supposed to be the driest state in the driest country in the world…
We think it really looks different at the moment!

100 years of hostelling

Hey all,

guess what great news there is ... Hostelling has turned 100 years 🙂

For this reason we had a great, free dinner yesterday! They had chicken, rice, salad, noodles, cake and loads of more stuff. But it's not just been a dinner. At the beginning there were drummers presenting their skills and after eating we watched the beginning of a backpacker movie. Finally, we sang "Happy Birthday" to YHA and had some pieces of cake, which turned out to be something like chocolate brownies and banana something ... Anyway, it was great!
